A new study published in The Journal of Nutrition on Dec. 31, 2020, analyzed the bodyweight changes of 65,099 women over a three-year period. The researchers also monitored their breakfast and meal frequency, with one-fourth of the women self-reporting themselves as eating breakfast every single day. Overall, what the study showed is that 18.4% of the participants gained 11 pounds or more between 2008 and 2011. However, the rate of weight gain among women who ate a meal in the morning was 7% lower than those who skipped breakfast altogether, according to the results. “Regular breakfast may be an important dietary factor for body weight change,” the study authors concluded. This theory is supported by other experts as well, as some dietitians say eating within an hour of waking up is the best for sustaining your energy levels throughout the morning. Another recent study found that consuming a meal high in protein before you exercise can help burn more fat and keep you full after your workout session is done, suggesting that eating a nutritious breakfast before your sweat sesh can be a great thing for your health and weight loss efforts.
